Global Climate Change

When we started on this adventure, our plan was to stay in 70 degree weather (Fahrenheit, of course)  As we have traveled, we have run the air conditioner, and the furnace; obviously, not hitting our goal.

This weekend, like the rest of the country, (except for California, which is an entity all its own) we have been FREEZING.  We're spending time in Huntsville, where the weather is as you see above.  I heard someone on the radio say, yesterday, that this was "a once in a lifetime weather event."  Typical, that it would happen in OUR lifetimes!

The major concern is not, actually, being warm humans.  The biggest concern is the myriad of water lines in the Behemoth, and whether they will freeze, rupture, and eat up our emergency fund in repairs from water damage.  We planned ahead of time to head to the Midwest to visit family for Christmas.  Knowing that it would be too cold for her, we made arrangements to leave her a little south of Huntsville, on a farm.  (Molly, being a dog, was concerned about leaving the Behemoth on a farm.  She knows what happens to dogs who are taken to a farm.  But, I digress) We thought that farm would be a fine place to leave her, as average temperatures in the area this time of year are well above freezing.

As you can see in this picture, the weather in Bay City, our northernmost stop, won't be much different than Huntsville.  We could have taken the Behemoth, if campgrounds were open.  Ah, well.
Yesterday, we left her with cabinets open, furnaces on, and incandescent lights in the water bays.  We have a temperature monitor which we can watch.  It's most important function is to tell us if the power has gone out.  That would make any furnaces, water heaters, etc, quit altogether, and then it would all freeze.
John was very comfortable with doing this, until about 5am.  He got up and decided that he had to go to the farm and verify that all was well.
Spoiler alert:  it was.
We should be good to go north.

Merry Christmas to all!
