Weekend

We had a good weekend.  We're in Huntsville, this month.  I have been vague, and posting long after the fact, because current internet wisdom, other travelers tell me, is to not reveal locations, dates, etc, unless at least 2 weeks lag time is figured in.  Apparently, someone will sneak up and wreak havoc upon us, if we let them know where there are.

I can't work that way, anymore.

So, we're in Huntsville, where John is doing some in-office work.  He'll be doing this about 3 times a year.  I am not going to reveal exactly when, so, if you're planning to wreak havoc, you'll have to figure out when in your own way.

Good weekend.  We planned to do some Christmas shopping Saturday at a local craft fair, but I messed up the date, and it was last weekend.  We tried substituting something called a "Christkindlmarkt", here in Huntsville.  I've been to a couple of those, and this was no Christkindlmarkt.  Oh, well.  We still had a breakfast out, and a good burger and beer at one of our favorite Huntsville places.  We also ordered a down jacket for John, which he'll need when we go north for Christmas.  Ordered, because the warmest thing we could find here was a raincoat rated at 15 degrees.  Yeah, not gonna work.

We also got a hike in on Saturday, on Monte Sano in Huntsville.  It was foggy and cold, but the sun did come out for about 4 minutes, 53 seconds.  Given that we've been here since Dec 3, and it's rained all day all but one of those days, you better believe we time the sun's appearance.

Notice the multiple trail blazes on these trees.  It's pretty confusing, but, actually, much better marked than many trails we've hiked.

I have this pretty winter vine in an artificial form in my winter decorating stash.
Up in those trees are two large black birds.  We first thought they were eagles, but realized they were just buzzards, watching us toil up the hill.

Neat orange mushrooms I found, but did not eat; they were much brighter in real life.

Although we started out with worship, we broke the Sabbath a bit, doing some little things around the camper; hanging a picture, cleaning out a storage bin, (we'll take some things to IL when we go for Christmas) and another short hike/walk.  Sunday dinner was an amazing meat loaf and baked sweet potatoes, cooked beautifully on John's tabletop Traeger.

All in all, a good weekend.
